Type I and II error

چکیده

Type I error A type I error occurs when one rejects the null hypothesis when it is true. The probability of a type I error is the level of significance of the test of hypothesis, and is denoted by *alpha*. Usually a one-tailed test of hypothesis is is used when one talks about type I error. Examples: If the cholesterol level of healthy men is normally distributed with a mean of 180 and a standard deviation of 20, and men with cholesterol levels over 225 are diagnosed as not healthy, what is the probability of a type one error? z=(225-180)/20=2.25; the corresponding tail area is .0122, which is the probability of a type I error. If the cholesterol level of healthy men is normally distributed with a mean of 180 and a standard deviation of 20, at what level (in excess of 180) should men be diagnosed as not healthy if you want the probability of a type one error to be 2%? 2% in the tail corresponds to a z-score of 2.05; 2.05 × 20 = 41; 180 + 41 = 221.

A Comparison of the Mahalanobis-Taguchi System to A Standard Statistical Method for Defect Detection

The Mahalanobis-Taguchi System is a diagnosis and forecasting method for multivariate data. Mahalanobis distance is a measure based on correlations between the variables and different patterns that can be identified and analyzed with respect to a base or reference group. This paper presents a comparison of the Mahalanobis-Taguchi System and a standard statistical technique for defect detection ...

Economic Production Quantity in Reworkable Production Systems with Inspection Errors, Scraps and Backlogging

The classical economic production quantity (EPQ) model is a well-known and commonly used inventory control technique. Common assumptions in this model are that all units produced are of perfect quality and shortage is not allowed, since in practice shortage, non-conforming product or scrap items are possible, these assumptions will underestimate the actual required quantity. The objective of th...

Estimation of Parameters for an Extended Generalized Half Logistic Distribution Based on Complete and Censored Data

This paper considers an Extended Generalized Half Logistic distribution. We derive some properties of this distribution and then we discuss estimation of the distribution parameters by the methods of moments, maximum likelihood and the new method of minimum spacing distance estimator based on complete data. Also, maximum likelihood equations for estimating the parameters based on Type-I and Typ...

Determination of kinetic parameters for ethylene polymerization (with and without hydrogen) by Ziegler-Natta catalyst.

In this study, slurry polymerization kinetics of ethylene with TiCl4/Mg(OEt)2/AlR3 Ziegler-Natta catalysts in various conditions using the model of sum square error (SSE) (method I) and model of least square error (LSE) (Method II) was investigated. For this purpose the molecular weight distributions of the samples were deconvoluted to the minimum number of Flor...
